Even in These-Psalms 139:9-10 Original

Why lilies and fish? Great question! It all started when I dropped my sponge when painting the background. It created this swirly-bubble texture. I loved it and started to do it on purpose over the rest of the canvas. I was talking with my sister about what to put with the lilies, and she jokingly said, “Why don’t you put fish because the background looks like water?” I loved that fish and lilies didn’t go together! It was unexpected! My brother is who suggested the name “Even in These,” though it was for a different painting at the time. I had this moment in church where his suggested title popped up with my lilies and fish. The deeper concept was the lilies represented mountains (because “lilies of the valley,” and you can’t have valleys without mountains). The fish represent the oceans, and God is in both and everywhere in between. He is with us in our highs, and He is with us in our lows. “If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me” Psalm 139:9-10 (NLT).
